A Dental Hygienist's Guide to Preventing Peri-Implantitis

    Dental implant treatment is not performed by only dentists but dental hygienists. After the implant treatment is finished, dental hygienists play a main role to keep the implant healthy in a long-term. In fact, before installing the implants, the dental hygienist has already started to treat the patient through such as initial periodontal therapy. Today, we will mainly discuss basic knowledge of the peri-implant disease in order to give a long-term prognosis to the patients.

  • How Do Dental Hygienists Prevent Peri-Implantitis ?

    As implant treatment is getting more familiar, it is true that more and more issues can occur. Among them, peri-implantitis has become one of the factors contributing to the loss of implants. In this presentation, I'd like to talk about the management of periodontitis to prevent peri-implantitis, initial periodontal therapy as preoperative treatment, non-surgical treatment for peri-implantitis, and maintenance.

  • Long-Term Cases Based Implant Maintenance

    According to the announcement made by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare in July 2021, the average life expectancy in Japan reached a record high of 87.74 and 81.64 years for women and men, respectively. Most implant treatments performed after tooth loss are done on patients over 50, and oral care, considering the patient's age, is essential for the implant's long-term stability. This presentation will use actual cases to discuss how to treat inflamed mucosa around the implant.
