Paradigm Shift in Orthodontics“Effective Anchorage Management”

Lecturers
  • Development of Next-Generation Orthodontic Anchor Screw for Orthodontics Using Surface (Cortical Bone) as a Fixation Source

Reducing the risk of damage to the tooth root or the maxillary sinus is essential during treatment involving the orthodontic anchor screw since the device reaches into deep parts of the bone. In our group, we are working on the development and practical application of anchor screws with a new concept of orthodontics that seeks a fixation source on the bone surface (cortical bone), intending to expand the range of cases (age, symptoms, etc.) and site of application. I would like to introduce an overview of the product we are developing.

  • “Selective Tooth Movement” by Orthodontic Anchorage Screw-Advanced Option for General Practice-

It is often difficult for general dentists who are not familiar with orthodontic treatment to treat patients with abnormal tooth positions. In this lecture, we will present cases from our clinic to discuss the benefits that came with the introduction of orthodontic anchor screws as a treatment option for the movement (i.e., extrusion, intrusion) of one or several teeth.

  • Enhancement Orthodontics for the “Real” Adults

Along with population ageing, the perception towards a healthy life has shifted from “life without disease” to “higher quality of life”. The needs and demands for better, healthier smile have also increased regardless of age in the recent years resulting in more “aged” patients in the orthodontic clinic. Given that the “aged” population tend to indicate a more complex situations combined with systemic diseases, periodontal breakdown, tooth wear etc. in addition to the preexisting malocclusion, orthodontic treatment should be considered as a part of an overall interdisciplinary treatment in the long term. This lecture will focus on various clinical tips for the selective and effective orthodontic treatment suitable for "older middle aged or aged adults".

  • Orthodontic Treatment Using an Anchor Lock System as a Fixed Source - Points for Diagnosis and Implantation-

The newly developed anchor lock system for palatal orthodontics reduces discomfort due to its simple design. It provides a stable and strong fixation source by holding the superstructure with two screws. In this lecture, as examples of the anchor lock system, we report on the centrifugal movement of molars in non-extraction cases, control of anterior tooth roots in extraction cases, and traction of impacted teeth without side effects.

  • How to Use Orthodontic Anchor Screws -Important Points during Diagnosis, Implanting, and Troubleshooting-

Using an orthodontic anchor screw, the movement of teeth is useful for orthodontic treatment and minimum tooth movement treatment. However, this method is dependent on the stability of the orthodontic anchor screw in the bone from implantation to removal. This lecture will discuss important points during diagnosis before implantation, implantation procedure, and possible complications to show how to use the anchor screw safely and predictably.
