Castle used to be a residence where the lord and his vassals lived.They were used as a meeting place and weapon storage house as well.Tenshukaku (castle tower) is a symbol of the castle, where the weapons and food were stored. Now there are only twelve castles existing as many castles all over Japan were destroyed during the Meiji Restoration ( 1868- ).
